Posted on January 30, 2018
Tokyo – The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has created a new logomark to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its global flagship “ADVAN” tyre brand. The new logomark will be used throughout 2018, starting in January, as we express our gratitude to the many people in Japan and abroad who have helped make “ADVAN” a hit brand that has been loved for over 40 years. “ADVAN” was born in 1978 as a tyre brand that pursues the “ultimate driving” experience. The brand’s initial offering, the “ADVAN HF”, was the first sports radial tyre to be introduced in Japan. Subsequent additions to the brand lineup have included many innovative hit products, such as 1981’s “ADVAN HF Type D.” The “ADVAN” brand’s use in motor sports in Japan and abroad has contributed greatly to raising awareness of the YOKOHAMA. Since 2005, Yokohama Rubber’s global strategy has positioned the “ADVAN” brand as the company’s global flagship brand. “ADVAN” tyres’ technical excellence has won approval for its use on many of the world’s leading premium cars, contributing to its global growth as a brand symbolic of the high performance and quality of YOKOHAMA tyres. Today, the “ADVAN” brand includes a diverse range of tyres for use on a wide variety of automobile classes, from high-performance premium cars to sports cars, luxury sedans, SUVs, and compacts. “ADVAN” tyres also come equipped as original equipment on many models from the world’s leading carmakers, including Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other overseas makers as well as Japanese makers. In addition, Yokohama Rubber has been supporting motor sports around the world by supplying its “ADVAN” racing tyres to teams in a wide variety of race types. For example, “ADVAN” has been the official tyre of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) for 12 straight years since 2006 and became the official tyre of the Japanese SUPER FORMULA Championship series in 2016. The 40th anniversary logomark uses a bold brush stroke to express the high performance and power that “ADVAN” tires deliver to drivers on normal city streets and winding roads as well as to drivers in the top-category motor races.
Why You Should Convert to Yokohama Tyres
Posted on January 9, 2018
As creatures of habit we often like to stick with what we know best. Failure to look beyond what we have always known limits our opportunities to discover superior alternatives. This is especially true with tyre brands. Many of us have used the same tyre manufacturer for many years, sticking with a certain brand because this is all we know. Now is the time to branch out and experience what your vehicle is truly capable of when driving on a set of Yokohama tyres. Why choose Yokohama tyres? 1. Award Winning Products Little proves a product’s worth more than an award winning status and Yokohama has multiple. The latest accolade for Yokohama was awarded to the ADVAN Sport V105, which was announced as Wheels Magazine’s Tyre Test Winner in 2015. In addition, the highly regarded motorist magazine also announced the Mazda MX-5 as their 2016 Car of the Year, which comes factory fitted with - you guessed it - Yokohama ADVAN Sport V105 tyres. 2. Quality Quality is arguably the most important consideration when choosing tyres. Yokohama ensures each and every tyre produced is of the best quality using advances in science and technology to combine natural and synthetic rubber with orange oil to allow for a long lasting and high performing tyre. 3. Investment in innovation and new designs As one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers, Yokohama is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of our tyres through investment in technology and design. Through this investment our team of scientists can use state of the art technology to continuously produce innovative materials and designs that provide you with optimum driving safety and performance. 4. Iconic and trusted brand Recommendation and reviews are one of the most influential factors when it comes to investing in a new product. As a brand that has been producing tyres for almost 100 years, Yokohama has acquired a renowned reputation for being amongst the best. Yokohama is globally recognised as a brand that consistently produces premium tyres and, as such, has earned credibility as a trusted and reliable tyre manufacturer. 5. Large selection Yokohama’s premium and innovative tyres span across a wide variety of sizes and uses, with specialist tyre technology implemented for racing, off-road, 4 wheel drive, SUV and passenger tyres to name a few. Each tyre is designed with its end use as the focus to ensure that the tyre performs at its absolute best for its purpose. Whether you require a new set of tyres for your everyday runabout or for a specialist racing car, Yokohama has the best tyre for you.
Yokohama Rubber Marks its 100th Anniversary

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., celebrated its 100th anniversary on October 13. We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and deepest gratitude to our customers for your support of the company's development over these many years. Yokohama Rubber started out in the eponymous city near Tokyo on October 13, 1917. Our history is a tale of overcoming challenges and adversity. We lost our production lines in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and again in the bombing of World War II but rebuilt them anew each time and went on to achieve renewed growth. Similarly, our resilience carried us through the financial panic of 1965, the bursting of Japan’s economic bubble at the outset of the 1990s, and the fallout from the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in 2008. Since our foundation, we have continuously and diligently pursued the development of new technologies, building upon the work of our predecessors to bring to our customers a constant stream of pioneering products that set new standards. As a result, our business has expanded and today Yokohama Rubber is a global corporation with 25,000 employees around the world. The pioneering products developed during our first 100 years include Japan’s first corded tire, the “Hama Town Cord” (1921) and its first snow tire, the “Y-29” (1954), as well as the G.T. Special" (1967), which contributed to the popularity of radial tires in Japan. We have also pioneered new tire genres, with our sport radial tire “ADVAN HF” (1978) and our eco-friendly “DNA” series (1998). Yokohama Rubber was also one of the first tire makers to adopt a brand strategy (1978-1980) that divided its product lineup into categories based on the tires’ special features. Our non-tire businesses also have displayed YOKOHAMA’s pioneering spirit, introducing many innovative products and industry firsts, including the world’s first large pneumatic fenders (1958), used to protect ships during ship-to-ship and dockside operations; the first building sealant (1975) to receive Japan’s highest rating for durability (JIS A5757); and the PRGR (Pro Gear) golf equipment brand (1983), which brought new scientific approaches, such as head-speed theory, to golf club design. As Yokohama Rubber enters its second century, we are dedicated to further refining the advanced product development capabilities and world-class technical capabilities that have been developed over the Company’s first 100 years. Firmly instilled with the pioneering spirit of our founders, we look forward to meeting future challenges and further growing the Company over the next 100 years.

Yokohama Rubber to supply “ADVAN” racing tires as control tires for the 2016 Sepang 12 Hours
Posted on July 22, 2016
Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that it will supply its global flagship “ADVAN” brand racing tire as the control tire for this year’s Sepang 12 Hours, an endurance race to be run on Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit from December 8 to 11. The control tires will be the “ADVAN A005” and the “ADVAN A006” for use on wet surfaces. Both tires make use of YOKOHAMA’s proprietary orange oil compounding technique to ensure superior grip performance while enhancing environmental performance. Yokohama Rubber is particularly proud to be selected as the supplier of control tires for the race as this year marks the first time that all cars participating in the Sepang 12 Hours endurance race will be run on control tires supplied by a single tiremaker. In past years, participating racing teams could freely choose tires supplied by several designated tiremakers. Nonetheless, cars running on YOKOHAMA tires have captured the overall championship five years in a row since 2011. Yokohama Rubber’s selection as the sole tire supplier for this year’s race reflects the race organizers’ high evaluation of the performance of YOKOHAMA tires, not just at previous Sepang 12 Hours races but also at top-class races around the world, including the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The Sepang 12 Hours was until 2013 known as the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race. The race has taken on a more international flavor in recent years, as teams from Europe have joined those from Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia and Thailand, and East Asian countries, such as Japan, China and Taiwan, and Australia in vying for positions on the winners’ podium. A wide range of machines in several racing car categories, from sports cars to low-exhaust touring cars, compete in the Sepang 12 Hours, with the top category being FIA-GT3 machines. From this year, SUPER GT GT300 class machines will also be allowed to participate, raising expectations for an even more exciting race.
